Get your Documents Ready

Both passport and valid international Driving Permit are required.

The International Driving Permit must be recognised by the International Conventions Concluded at Genva on 19 September 1949.

※International Driving Permit is valid for one year after issuance.

Drivers with Driving License Issued in France, Germany, Switzerland, Estonia, Morocco, or Taiwan

According to the traffic laws in Japan, drivers are required to bring the following the documents with them when driving:

Valid Driving License

Valid Passport

Valid Japanese Translated Version of the License

The official translated documents can be obtained from the following organisations:

  1. Japan Embassies or Consulates
  2. Japan Automobile Federation

※ It can also be obtained from Motor Vehicles Office in Taiwan
